1M was so excited to perform Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters this Friday! This story, written by John Steptoe, is an African Cinderella tale. This story was chosen because of it’s message about kindness. 1M learned Swahili from Ms. Weaver’s daughter, Sydney. After learning Swahili, 1M students decided to add in words like Hisani (kindness), Mambo (hello to one person) Habari (hello to a group of people) and Ndio (yes) into their script! They also wanted to add aspects of African music, like drumming, into the play. Miss MacQuarrie and the students in 1M want to thank everyone who contributed to the success of the play! There were so many people helping out! Bravo 1M!
Next week on April 30th, first graders will travel to Foster Fields. We look forward to connecting this work to our Charlotte’s Web read aloud, and to social studies.
