The first grade children used all their new knowledge about poetry and wrote a poem about family. The children were encouraged to consider line breaks, descriptive language, emotion, and comparisons. They wrote from their heart and thought about how a poet might say thier thoughts in comparison to everyday langauge. They will present their carefully wrapped gift to families over the winter break. The first grade teachers wish all of their families a happy and safe winter break!
Today 1S took to the stage at the Primary School and transported the studet body and faculty to the farm where Otis the friendly tractor lives with all of his farm animal friends. The class play was based on the book Otis and the Scarecrow, by Loren Long, and tells the story of a bunch of friendly farm animals and the resident tractor, Otis. They are presented with the problem of a scarecrow on the farm that refuses to be friendly. No matter what the aniamals do, that scarecorw just remains stoic with a sour look on his face. After several failed attempts to get the scarecrow to join in their friendly antics, the characters decide to teach the scarecrow how to make friends. This story about friendship, gives a clear message about compassion and empathy. Bravo to the class of 1S!
